To Whom It May Concern,
I am currently a resident at a homeless shelter here in Portland, Maine.
Recently I became a member of the National Socialist Party, and I decided to
paint a Swastika on my mug, in order to express my belief. I was informed that
I could not display a Swastika in the soup kitchen, nor in the homeless
shelter, even though I was merely wanting to display a symbol of my political
beliefs.
The reason that the shelter and soup kitchen management gave me, for why I
couldn't display a Swastika on my mug, was because this symbol would cause
anxiety among a number of the clients who are using the facilities there.
Apparently, there are a number of Jewish people residing at the homeless shelter,
and eating food at the soup kitchen, and a Swastika represents what happened
to the Jews during the Holocaust, and it scares them. A staff member at the
soup kitchen told me I had to put the mug away, so no one could see it. A
young man ended up taking my mug and throwing it in the trash, and threatened
violence against me if I tried to retrieve the mug. Although I reported the
incident to the staff, nothing was done about the theft or the threat of
violence.
I do not believe that anyone has the right to complain about the presence of
Swastikas. According to the Jews' own Covenant, the Holocaust was
punishment by God for their own wickedness. The Holocaust was not emblematic of
anything evil or wrong on the part of the Germans, and therefore it should not
carry that connotation now. The Holocaust is written in their own Law, in
Deuternomy 28:49-63 as a part of the Covenant curses. This particular passage is
undeniably the Holocaust, and it was prophesied 3500 years ago. The passage
begins with the words, "The Lord shall bring a nation against thee from far,
from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth ..." (v. 49). God
brought Germany's attack against the Jews. Verse 50 states, "A nation of
fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor shew favor
to the young." According to their own Covenant, it was God who brought upon
the Jews the brutality and violence. Verse 59 states, "Then the Lord will
make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues,
and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance." Verse
58 states that the violence and sicknesses were brought against the Jews as
signs to them that they had stopped fearing God, and had turned away from the
Law. Verses 46-47 state that these curses were to serve as signs and
wonders ("proof" in the official translation from the Hebrew), that the Jews had
turned away from serving God. Deuteronomy 28:20 defines their rebellion as
wickedness: "The Lord shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in
all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and
until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby
thou hast forsaken me."
The Jews have no right to complain about something that represents God's
judgment against them for their own wrongdoing, regardless of how painful that
punishment was for them. The Jews also have no right to use what has been
defined in their own Covenant as just punishment, as reason to curtail and
diminish our Constitutional right to free speech, and freedom of religion. I
consider the wearing and carrying of the Swastika a part of my religion, as I
believe that God's Word is true, and that the Holocaust was a fulfillment of an
ancient prophesy for the Israelites, and a sacred and definitive event.
I am requesting that you look into this matter for me, and let me know if I
have the right to display the Swastika in a soup kitchen and a homeless
shelter. I believe, even if the symbol causes distress among the presumedly
homeless Jews, it is for their own guilt, as defined by their own Covenant, and
they have no right to complain about what God has done to them. They were
sufficiently warned. If a thief is caught and sent to prison, does the thief
have the right to complain about the display of symbols of his punishment after
he has been released, to the detriment of another person's Constitutional
rights? Likewise, does the punishment of the thief give the thief the right to
infringe on our Constitutional rights, in order to ensure that he doesn't get
punished for new crimes?

SACRAMENTO -- Democratic Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez said Thursday that he
would concede and allow driver's licenses for illegal immigrants to be
marked with a special designation if Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger would agree to
sign a licensing bill.
Nunez, D-Los Angeles, said he wants to reopen negotiations on the license
issue to discuss some type of identifying mark, the lack of which
Schwarzenegger cited as one of the reasons why he vetoed the bill Wednesday.
"I personally don't like the mark, I don't think it's a good idea, but I'm
also a practical person," Nunez said.
"And I think at some point we're going to have to come to terms with those
things that we like and (don't) like and try to reach a compromise with the
governor. So I'm all for trying to figure out what that mark would look like."
Nunez said he would be particularly open to a mark that would be invisible
to the general public but visible to authorities.
Supporters of the license law say they fear that any mark would stigmatize
illegal immigrants and invite discrimination against them.
A spokeswoman for the Republican governor said he is open to discussing the
issue further but remains insistent on a mark that is visible to the general
public. He also has concerns about other security provisions, such as the
reliability of background information coming from other countries.
"The governor has been very clear it has to be something that's visible,"
spokeswoman Margita Thompson said. "It has to be something that does not allow
the document to be used as an identification tool."
Nunez authored the bill Schwarzenegger vetoed, AB 2895, which was based on
an earlier bill by Sen. Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles.
Cedillo said he's willing to work with the governor to address homeland
security or other concerns, but that he opposes color-coded licenses or
identifying marks.
"The first proposal we've received in writing from the governor is the
veto," Cedillo said. "That's their starting point. I think that any proposal that
is abhorrent and discriminatory on its face will define the line that we
won't cross."
Cedillo said Schwarzenegger vetoed the best driver's license bill in the
nation -- one that would have strengthened national security and public safety
by allowing the government to fingerprint and conduct background checks on all
immigrants, both those who are here illegally and those in the process of
seeking citizenship.
He said he would reintroduce the bill in January.
Ann Marie Tallman, president and general counsel of the Mexican American
Legal Defense and Educational Fund, said the bill would have allowed a large
segment of the state's work force to legally drive to and from work.
"Over 60 percent of our agricultural and mining work force in California are
foreign-born and many of those are undocumented," Tallman said. "They are
very important to the economy of the state."
Also on Thursday, conservative activists began circulating a petition for a
constitutional amendment to ban illegal immigrants from receiving driver's
licenses as well as other public services such as college tuition breaks and
government grants.
