A blind judo expert astounded a mugger by pinning him to the ground after he tried to steal his cigarettes, police said on Monday.
The assailant, a 17-year-old man of Asian origin, spotted the 33-year-old, who police identified only as Emil E., at a train station
in the southwestern town of Giessen and thought he would be easy prey, police spokesman Rolf Wellershausen said.
But what the attacker did not know, the spokesman said, was that his victim was a world-class blind judo wrestler.
The 17-year-old threatened the blind man, then punched him in the face, at which point the martial artist flipped him and held him
down until police arrived.

Oil Supply Watchers Wait For Signs From OPEC Meeting
When the OPEC cartel begins its meeting Sept. 11, some analysts expect Saudi Arabia’s dirty little secret will come out: It, and
the world with it, has hit peak oil.
Oil, these analysts think, is running short — leaving a yawning gap between supply and demand that will eventually send the world
economy into a tailspin and could even lead to war.
Saudi Arabia, the line of reasoning goes, will refuse to increase oil production not because it doesn’t want to — but because it can’t.
“If they actually do say they’re not increasing their supply for this that or the other reason, it would give a clue that it’s a problem,”
said Gail Tverberg, who blogs as Gail The Actuary on The Oil Drum blog, a leading proponent of the Peak Oil theory.
What is Peak Oil?
Oil is a finite resource — it is produced by subterranean pressure over the course of millions of years. So what we’ve got is all
we’ve got. Oil drillers go for the easy and most profitable crude first — the stuff that requires the least energy to pump out of the
ground and the least refining to make into a useable product. When that is gone, what’s left is harder and more expensive to get
at and deliver to the market.
The peak oil theory says that when we’ve pumped about half the crude in the world, demand for oil keeps rising but the supply
falters. Maybe it hits an “undulating plateau.” Maybe it falls in fits and starts. Maybe it drops like a stone. Off a cliff. But it falls
— leaving a widening gap between supply and demand.
That will not only mean higher gas prices, but higher prices for just about everything because petroleum is the basis for many of
the products we use. If oil runs short before there are alternatives available, expect big geopolitical shifts as nations vie for control
of the oil reserves that remain.
Are We There Yet?
Some say we’ve reached, or are near to reaching, that point — the peak, when the earth’s geologic formations no longer yield
enough oil fast enough to meet the world’s ever-growing demand. After all, most nations outside the Middle East have already
peaked, according to the Government Accountability Office. The United States peaked in 1970 and now pumps half of what
it did 35 years ago.
But how do we know? That’s where the OPEC conference that convenes Sept. 11 comes in.
OPEC nations control 80% of the world’s known reserves of oil, and pump about 40% of its current supply. Analysts doubt
that these countries have as much oil as they say they do — because they don’t admit to drawing down the tank, so to speak.
Despite continued pumping, and despite having failed to find any significant new oil fields, their stated reserves remain relatively
stable. And countries like Saudi Arabia keep investing in oil infrastructure with no obvious increase in production — suggesting
the Saudis might be working harder and harder to get at dwindling reserves.
Saudi Arabia, with about a quarter of proven world reserves, hasn’t admitted to any difficulties pumping enough oil to maintain
production, though other OPEC nations have.
So, the theory goes, when OPEC meets, they must confront the growing world demand for oil (unless, that is, the recent
upheaval in the U.S. credit market has slackened demand significantly). One would expect them to increase production to meet
that demand, but the suspicion is that they will not boost production. Because they can’t. Because they too have reached the peak.
Shifting Sands
But if it is a milestone, it will be difficult to recognize. The Peak Oil argument is clouded with unknowns: How much oil is there
in the ground? How much does Saudi Arabia really have? How fast can new technology be developed? How politically stable
will oil-producing nations be?
“Once you get a handful of this sand, it just goes through your fingers,” said the pseudonymous Prof. Goose, who co-founded
The Oil Drum and hides his true identity. “That’s why it’s so fascinating, but also why it’s so frustrating.”
Only the most aggressive analysts believe the world has already reached the peak. Others believe the peak could come in five,
10 or as many as 35 years.
Even those who discount that peak oil is near or relevant — like the industry bigwig Cambridge Energy Research Associates —
do not promote “a view of endless abundance.”
They place their faith in undiscovered deposits in the Arctic and elsewhere, or in upcoming advances in technology that will
make hard-to-extract reserves such as oil sands, oil shale or deep-water deposits easier and cheaper to get. CERA says the
peak will come around 2030, followed by several decades of an “undulating plateau” of supply. They say we have decades
to develop alternatives.
But even they say it’s important to develop those alternatives now.
Preparing For The Inevitable Peak
“This means that there is time to consider the best way to develop viable energy alternatives that would eventually provide
the bulk of our transport energy needs and ensure that there is a useable production stream of conventional crude for some
time to come,” a November CERA report called Why the Peak Oil Theory Falls Down concluded.
Advocates of the Peak Oil theory point out that even if technology and unconventional sources of oil fill the gaps for decades
to come, that oil could well come at a much higher price.
Congress and the 2008 presidential candidates are talking a lot about energy. They’re talking about how fossil fuels contribute
to climate change. They’re talking about “energy independence” as a means of extracting the country from hostile foreign
entanglements. Some are talking about an Apollo-scale undertaking to transform our energy habits.
They might want to start talking about Peak Oil. About not only independence from foreign oil – but independence from oil
altogether. And now.
They might not have a choice.

foreigners who commit serious crimes once they have served their jail sentence. But far more dramatically, it has announced its intention
to lay before Parliament a law allowing the entire family of a criminal under the age of 18 to be deported as soon as sentence is passed.
It will be the first such law in Europe since the Nazi practice of Sippenhaft – kin liability – whereby relatives of criminals were held responsible
for their crimes and punished equally.

Oil prices set new records Wednesday and other energy futures also rose after the government reported a surprisingly large drop in
crude oil inventories and accompanying declines in gasoline supplies and refinery activity.
The report from the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration confirms the view of many investors that oil supplies are
tightening even as demand remains strong. That's why oil prices are rising despite OPEC's decision on Tuesday to boost crude production
by 500,000 barrels per day this fall, analysts said.
Despite setting a new price record of $79.89 Wednesday, oil is still well below inflation-adjusted highs above $101 a barrel hit in early 1980.
Oil's advance has been largely due to speculative buying by big investment funds, who are responding to a price structure in which oil
contracts for delivery in future months are cheaper than the current front-month contract, said Jim Ritterbusch, president of Ritterbusch
& Associates in Galena, Ill.
That kind of structure, known in market-speak as "backwardation," signifies tight demand in the immediate future, and is a buying incentive.
Investors who buy now will end up with more oil contracts later, when October futures roll over to cheaper contracts for delivery in later
months, Ritterbusch said.
"This is a market that wants to run up on the slightest bit of information," Ritterbusch said.
Prices were also being supported by worries a tropical depression that formed in the western Atlantic on Wednesday will become a
hurricane and hit critical Gulf oil and gas infrastructure.

Mattel finally catches up with Southern offshore oilfield workers who found out over 30 years ago in the Far East that putting in large
orders to Chinese vendors and Chinese manufacturing facilities leads to buying junk products. If they can't fill an order properly, you
get what ever is thrown in the bag. And I'm talking about simple orders such as kitchen supplies and hand tools. If the Chinese company
you are dealing with can't come up with a pipe wrench, they might send you a pair of pliers in its place LOL!! We figured out that it was
all about the Chinese -- saving face. They just can't bring themselves to say "we don't have that." And that is surely what happened to
Mattel. The Chinese manufacturing facilities probably didn't have the proper components, so they used whatever they could get their
hands on which resulted in an inferior product.
Fuck Mattel. The board of directors were putting the bum on China to use slave labor to make their products for next to nothing which
means huge profits for Mattel Inc. Consumers in America should sue Mattel until the cows come home. Don't worry about the Chinese.
The rip off artist is Mattel.
You can see by this one event how easily these phony international corporations can crack. It reminds me of Humpty Dumpty!

outside of his body," said the Texas fan's attorney.
That's exactly what touched off a bloody skirmish that left a Texas-shirt-wearing fan nearly castrated and an Oklahoma fan facing
aggravated assault charges that could put him in prison for up to five years.
The shocking case has set off a raging debate in this football-crazed region about the extreme passions behind a bitter rivalry. Some
legal observers have even questioned whether this case could ever truly have an impartial jury.
"I've actually heard callers on talk radio say that this guy deserved what he got for wearing a Texas T-shirt into a bar in the middle
of Sooner country," said Irven Box, an attorney in this city 20 miles from Oklahoma's campus in Norman.
According to police, 32-year-old Texas fan Brian Christopher Thomas walked into Henry Hudson's Pub on June 17 wearing a
Longhorns T-shirt and quickly became the focus of football "trash talk" from another regular, 53-year-old Oklahoma fan Allen Michael Beckett.
Thomas told police that when he decided to leave and went to the bar to pay his tab, Beckett grabbed him in the crotch, pulled him
to the ground and wouldn't let go, even as bar patrons tried to break it up. When the two men were separated, Thomas looked down
and realized the extent of his injuries.
"He could see both of his testicles hanging on the outside of his body," said Thomas' attorney, Carl Hughes. "He was wearing a pair of
white shorts, which made it that much worse."
It took more than 60 stitches to close the wound, and police interviewed Thomas at a nearby hospital emergency room.
Beckett's attorney, Billy Bock, concedes that his client commented about Thomas' shirt, but said it was just good-natured ribbing and
that he apologized to Thomas when it appeared to upset the Texas fan. Later, Bock said Thomas approached his client at the bar and threatened him.
"My client is a little man, and this guy (Thomas) is 30 to 40 pounds bigger than him," Bock said. "He's bigger, stronger, younger and
probably faster, and he aggressively leaned in and touched my client and threatened to beat him up. ... My guy was defending himself
and just took control of the situation."
Thomas' attorney disputes Beckett's version.
"That's total malarkey," Hughes said. "My client never said a word to him. He got up to pay and when he paid and left a tip,
the guy grabbed him."
Beckett, a 53-year-old church deacon, federal auditor and former Army combat veteran, has pleaded not guilty. His next court
appearance comes Oct. 4, two days before the Sooners and Horns tangle in their annual football game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

About the survey
The American Community Survey is mailed to 3 million homes in the United States and Puerto Rico, going to roughly one in
40 addresses each year. Survey recipients are required by law to respond.
The Census Bureau intends to use the annual surveys to replace the long-form, sent to one in six households every 10 years.
Asians have nudged past Hispanics as the second-largest minority group in Metro Detroit, bucking a national trend, according
to U.S. Census figures to be released today.
More than a third of all Asians in the region are from India, with almost 20 percent coming from China, followed by those
from the Philippines, Japan and Korea. A third of the new Asians are living in Oakland County, but populations in Wayne
and Macomb also have seen significant growth.
"I never imagined coming to Detroit, if not for the job," said Ramana Mudeganti, a 34-year-old native of southern India
who left Raleigh, N.C., for a technology job at Compuware six years ago.
He was comforted by the fact that many classmates and a neighbor from India were already here. Now a contract worker
at Chrysler, he settled in Rochester Hills and got married. On Sunday, his son was born.
"When I moved here, it felt good. If you can bear the winter, it's not that expensive here," he said. "It's a very big community.
There's Middle Eastern, Asian; all communities here. A very diversified community."
Metro Detroit is more diverse than ever, according to the U.S. Census Bureau report that provides the most detailed snapshot
of the changing demographics of the region and state since the 2000 census.
The figures from the 2006 American Community Survey also showed the state lost an estimated 170,000 manufacturing jobs
in six years and that while more Metro Detroit residents are earning bachelor's degrees, the region still trails the national average.
The survey was mailed to 3 million homes in the United States and Puerto Rico, going to roughly one in 40 addresses each year,
and details communities of 65,000 people or more.
Asian-Indians in particular are flexing newfound economic clout. Although the Census Bureau shows that more Asians are moving
into Metro Detroit, their lead over Hispanics is not overwhelming. Since the survey has margins of error, the two populations are similar.
Still, Ruben Acosta, president of Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development (LASED), a social service agency, questions
the Census figures, saying it is difficult to get an accurate count of undocumented Hispanic residents in part because of reluctance among
some to participate in head counts.
"Take Southwest Detroit, the voice of the Hispanic community politically would be much louder if the true population was understood
and recognized by the political establishment," Acosta said.
The figures show the Asian population has grown by about 15,000 since 2000, with many settling in Canton Township, Rochester
Hills and Troy, where schools and businesses are offering new programs and products and services geared toward the new residents.

"Overcoming Zionism" was published by Pluto Press and distributed in America by the University of Michigan Press under a
contract with Pluto. But after a group devoted to defending Israel, StandWithUs, denounced the book as a "collection of anti-
Israel propaganda, misquotes, and discredited news stories," the university press halted its distribution.
Mr. Kovel said he learned about the decision in an e-mail message saying shipping had been cut off because the book was
"hate speech." The author of the message, provided to The New York Sun, could not be reached for comment, and a spokeswoman
for the University of Michigan, Kelly Cunningham, said she could not verify it.

cannot recall any of them ever questioning the honor of Tom Metzger.

I just finished reading an excellent book written by Cal State University-Long Beach Prof. Kevin MacDonald titled Understanding
Jewish Influence: A Study In Ethnic Activism.
I highly recommend this book of three essays by Prof. MacDonald for everyone. Great crash-course book on the Jews that you
can share with whites who only recently have become race-conscious!
The introduction is written by the late Sam Francis (book was published in 2004 and SF died in 2005). In the intro, Mr. Francis
sums up the true feeble nature of "Jewish Power" in these words (words in brackets are mine):

What is clear in the two cases mentioned, the Iraq war and the Gibson controversy (about Mel's film The Passion of the Christ),

I had a dream the other night that I was ranting to some group of people in public and when I woke up, I put this down
on paper before I forgot it. It is a pretty close draft of my lecture in the dream.
The sooner the myth of racial equality is exposed as the great fraud it is, the sooner the natural order of things can be
restored to the social world. While it is true that all races have certain inalienable rights, and it should never be the case that
a race be reduced in status to the level of becoming the property of another, neither should one race have to subsidize the
incompetence of an intellectually inferior one.
In America, somewhere along the way, guilt over the plight of the negro’s inability to sustain itself as an intellectual force to be
reckoned with, has caused whites to buy into the idea that the reason for the negro culture’s inability to organize itself into an
accomplished people is their subjugation to the whites. The truth, however, is that the Negro has historically always attached
itself parasitically to other more advanced cultures and in such a way that it is invariably detrimental to the host culture.
No race has ever sustained a constant state of poverty and internal strife to the degree of the Negro and simultaneously existed
in the abject absence of intellectual development as a race and culture. The entire continent of Africa is prima fascia evidence of this.
Every country in Africa where they are not killing each other with machetes is managed by races other than the Negro. The worst
circumstance ever to come upon the negro people was the wholesale slavery of the race during certain periods of history, and while
they were by no means the only race subject to the atrocities of slavery, they were solely responsible for this condition due to the
fact that they themselves sold one another to the outside market into slavery in a large way. Without being bogged down in the

GAS TIPS
Q: Does it matter whether I fill my car with regular, medium-grade or premium gas?
A: Probably not. Experts say most cars on the road will run just fine on regular — even if the owners manual says a car "requires"
premium gas.
"For the majority of cars out there, their engine was designed to run on 87 octane," the octane rating of most regular gas, said Patrick
Kelly, fuels associate at the American Petroleum Institute.
It is true that some high-performance cars are designed to run their best on premium high-octane fuel. The manuals of many such
sports cars or vehicles with "super-charged" or "turbo-charged" engines say they require premium gas.
"Generally speaking, those vehicles will run fine on regular gas," said Geoff Sundstrom, a spokesman for AAA.
They just won't run as well as they would on higher octane fuels.
Does that mean a Honda Civic will accelerate like a Corvette when fueled with premium?
"Not really," says Kelly.
In fact, unless you own a high-performance car, you're unlikely to notice any difference between different grades of gas.
"In theory it does (boost performance), but the difference would be minuscule or hard to notice by any average driver," Kelly said.
It sounds counterintuitive, but higher octane levels prevent an engine's gasoline-air mixture from spontaneously combusting before
the spark plug fires. High-performance engines compress the gas-air mixture more than regular engines, giving the tiny explosions
that drive pistons more force. But if a lower octane fuel is used, the mixture will sometimes explode before it has been completely
compressed, delivering less power to the engine or, in some cases, working against the other pistons.
In older cars, this caused "knocking," which was just the sound of pistons firing prematurely and out of sequence. Newer cars are
designed to detect and compensate for premature piston firing, preventing the knocking noise, Kelly said. But their pistons can still
fire prematurely, preventing engines from running at maximum power, he said.
Older cars also sometimes knock due to carbon build-up in the piston chambers, which reduces the chambers' size, causing
premature firing. Detergent gasoline additives required since the mid-1990s have solved that problem in many cars by keeping
engines cleaner, Kelly said.
While premium gas won't help most cars run perceptibly better, high octane fuel has another benefit: "You get a slight advantage in
fuel economy," Sundstrom said.
But that advantage is usually more than offset by the fuel's higher cost.
"For consumers that are worried about the high cost of gasoline, they're going to do just fine purchasing the regular grade of
gasoline," Sundstrom said.

Gal-On said Olmert, whose government has been silent on Syrian accusations that Israel's air force bombed its territory on Sept. 6, must
provide details to the Knesset panel.
"It is inconceivable that there not be Knesset oversight on Israel Defense Force operations across the border -- if not in
advance, then at
least in retrospect," Gal-On told Army Radio.
Mazuz's office had no immediate comment. Foreign media have speculated that Israel's warplanes struck a suspected
nuclear plant in Syria,
suggesting the mission was so sensitive as to warrant Olmert muzzling his administration.

FORT MEADE, Md. - President Bush said Wednesday that a law hastily passed in August to temporarily give the
government more power
to eavesdrop without warrants on foreign terror suspects must be made permanent and expanded.
If this doesn't happen, Bush said, "Our national security professionals will lose critical tools they need to protect our country."
"Without these tools, it will be harder to figure out what our enemies are doing to train, recruit and infiltrate operatives into
America," he said
on a visit to the super-secret National Security Agency's headquarters in suburban Fort Meade, Md. "Without these tools,
our country will
be much more vulnerable to attack."
The 30-year-old Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act governs when warrants for eavesdropping must be obtained from a
secret intelligence
court. This year's update — approved by the Senate and House just before Congress adjourned for an August break —
allows more efficient
interceptions of foreign communications.
Under the new law — the Protect America Act — the government can eavesdrop, without a court order, on communications
conducted by a
person reasonably believed to be outside the United States, even if an American is on one end of the conversation —
so long as that American
is not the intended focus or target of the surveillance.

BEIRUT, Lebanon - A powerful bomb killed an anti-Syria lawmaker and six others Wednesday in a Christian neighborhood of Beirut,
threatening to derail an effort by an already deeply divided Parliament to elect Lebanon's next president in voting to begin next week.
Antoine Ghanem, a 64-year-old member of the Christian Phalange party who had returned from refuge abroad only two days earlier, was the
eighth anti-Syria figure and fourth lawmaker from the governing coalition to be assassinated in less than three years.
Coalition members blamed Syria. Damascus denied involvement, as it has for the previous seven assassinations, including the 2005 bombing
death of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri — a killing that ignited huge protests that forced Syria to withdraw its troops after
a three-decade occupation.
Security officials said at least 67 people were wounded in Wednesday's blast, half of which had left the hospital by day's end. The explosion
occurred at rush hour on a busy street in the Sin el-Fil district, severely damaging nearby buildings, setting several cars on fire and scattering
blood and debris along the street.

In a recent blog posting, a German operator of a Tor anonymous proxy server revealed that he was arrested by German police officers
at the end of July. Although he was released shortly afterwards, information about the arrest had been kept quiet until his lawyers were able
to get the charges dropped.
Tor is a privacy tool designed to allow users to communicate and browse anonymously on the Internet. It's endorsed by the Electronic
Frontier Foundation and other civil liberties groups as a method for whistle blowers and human rights workers to communicate with
journalists. Tor provides anonymous Web-browsing software to hundreds of thousands of users around the world, according to its
developers. The largest numbers of users are in the United States, the European Union and China.

Oil Futures Set New Records for 7th Straight Session on Inventory Report, Refinery Problems
NEW YORK (AP) -- Oil prices reached record highs for the seventh straight session Wednesday after refineries in California and
Texas said they had new outages and the government reported surprisingly large declines in oil inventories.
While oil futures jumped to a new trading high of $82.51 a barrel in the moments after the inventory report was released in the morning,
they spent much of the day alternating between gains and losses before reports of refinery outages led to late-session buying.
Light, sweet crude for October delivery rose 42 cents to settle at a record $81.93 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Dow Jones Newswires reported that ExxonMobil Corp. shut down a crude processing unit at its 348,000 barrel-a-day refinery in
Beaumont, Texas, and that a piece of gasoline-making equipment at Chevron's 266,000 barrel-a-day refinery in El Segundo, Calif.,
had been shut down. The impact on production was unclear.
Nymex gasoline rose 3.31 cents to settle at $2.0934 a gallon.

Halberstam was introduced to a federal judge for the Southern District of New York with a longstanding interest in terrorism-related issues.
In the years since, Judge Michael Mukasey became a fixture in the life of Ari's family, keeping a photo of the slain teenager on the
mantle in his chambers, meeting regularly with his mother and in March, receiving the memorial award established in Ari's memory.
Mukasey even attended the weddings of Ari's siblings, one of which required him to endure torrential rainstorms during the outdoor
ceremony.

A Jewish student at the University of Florida who gained national fame for being Tasered may perform with Hillel.
Andrew Meyer, who was forcibly subdued Tuesday during a speech by U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), was seen performing
recently by two Florida Hillel staffers, Rabbi Yoni Kaiser-Blueth told JTA, and Meyer has been considered for a performance at
an upcoming Hillel open-mic event.
In the wake of the Taser episode Kaiser-Blueth, the Florida Hillel's associate director of Jewish student life, said his staff had yet to
discuss whether Meyer would still be considered. He reportedly was arrested on charges of resisting an officer and disturbing the
peace, and released on his own recognizance.
Meyer, an aspiring journalist, was "nominally affiliated" with the campus Jewish group, Kaiser-Blueth said. He is also a contributing
writer for the campus Jewish newspaper, The Shpiel.
Kaiser-Blueth said Hillel was trying to reach out to Meyer, but was having little luck reaching him.
"CNN is a little more pressing than the local Hillel here," Kaiser-Blueth said.
