Stability in the Middle East, including Israel, rests on a decisive American victory in Iraq, Republican presidential candidate John McCain told Jewish leaders.

A lawyer active for years in the American Jewish Congress has been named general counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives.
Irv Nathan was named to the post by Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), the House speaker.
"Irv Nathan has an outstanding reputation and record of accomplishment in private practice and in government service," Pelosi said last week in announcing the appointment, which will take effect in November.
Nathan, like Pelosi a Baltimore native, is a past member of the AJCongress' executive committee and has litigated church-state issues on the group's behalf.
In the 1990s he chaired an AJCongress task force on terrorism and the law. Nathan currently is a top litigator for the law firm of Arnold & Porter, and also has served in senior Justice Department positions.
As general counsel, Nathan will take the lead role in congressional battles with the Bush administration over access to records and witnesses related to a number of cases.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center called on the New York Archdiocese to distance itself from a Croatian singer it considers racist.
Mark Perkovic, a Croatian rock star known by the stage name Thompson, is slated to perform twice this week in New York at a venue reportedly owned by the Catholic Church. In a letter to the archbishop of New York, Cardinal Edward Egan, the center urged the Church to ensure that it had no association with Perkovic.
"Inviting this man to sing in North America is tantamount to inviting a singer to extol ethnic cleansing in Darfur," said Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the Wiesenthal Center's associate dean.
Thompson concerts are known to feature nationalist imagery and slogans, and to attract fans wearing the insignia of the Ustashe regime, a Nazi-backed fascist movement responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Jews during World War II.

The Fallbrook Community Center was setup to assist with food and
supplies for those who lost their homes or were displaced during the recent fires. Reports surfaced that illegal aliens of questionable residency both in this country and this township (in masses) were collecting supplies in large quantities. These supplies are suppose to be reserved for people who suffered from the fires, why are these people receiving assistance and cleaning out their "limited supplies". I arrived to witness the events for myself, they are confirmed. Seems Saint Peters Church is sending all their day laborers to to the community center to collect food. When I arrived, I noticed many faces from the day labor site, most of which have questionable citizenship, most of which are confirmed. This is appalling that these people who were not affected by the fire are receiving limited resources donated for people who suffered losses from the fire. Are we seeing a repeat of the Qualcomm theft incident (NCT failed to cover the story) where limited
resources were stolen or given out to people who did not suffer during
the fire. I have sent copies of this to every anti-illegal group in the
county for their direction, this needs to stop, no more "perks" to  law

Once a radical fringe group comprised of anti-establishment punk rockers and white supremacists, racist skinheads have developed an underground nationwide revolutionary movement with secret meetings, elder statesmen and an ambitious agenda — to overthrow the government and put the white race firmly in control. Their beliefs are similar to Nazi ideals: People of color as well as Jews and homosexuals are inferior to the white race. According to the Anti-Defamation League, there are more than 110 recognized racist skinhead organizations in the United States, and since 2001, the total number of racist skinheads has doubled to an estimated 10,000.

American Skinheads takes a look at a variety of groups and their violent methodologies, from the white supremacist gangs in Arizona who hunt down illegal immigrants crossing the Mexican-American border, to the vicious kicking and beating of a white man mistaken for a drug addict in Tacoma, Wash., by four skinheads, including a pregnant woman who wanted to earn "red laces" to prove she had participated in a violent criminal act. The victim, Randy Townsend, was attacked because drug addicts and dealers are considered a threat to the purity of the white race. Perhaps the most tragic detail of this horrific crime is that Randy was indeed on drugs — to treat his schizophrenia.

A new memorial to victims of the Germans so-called euthanasia program was dedicated in Berlin.

Information about "Action T4," which carried out the gassing of more than 70,000 mentally handicapped people in Germany in 1940-41, is presented in a bus shelter near the spot at the public park, or Tiergarten, where the program was headquartered.

The information plaques, in German and English, were designed by local Jewish artist and activist Ronnie Golz, who also has designed bus stops with information about Adolf Eichman, a chief architect of the Holocaust; and Varian Fry, an American who helped some Jews flee Nazi territory for the United States.

The newest informational bus stop, formally dedicated Oct. 26, is located near the site of the former villa on Tiergarten Strasse 4. More than 200,000 people with mental and physical handicaps were put to death by the Nazi regime, which considered their lives worthless and a burden to the state.

Construction began on a new home for Berlin's Gestapo museum and documentation center.

The current open-air exhibit, called "Topography of Terror," eventually will be moved to the permanent building, which has been 20 years in the planning. Its construction began this weekend.
The 10-year-old photographic exhibit, which reportedly draws 400,000 visitors annually, is located on the site of the former headquarters of the Nazi secret police, or Gestapo. A strip of the Berlin Wall borders one side of the exhibit, which is in former East Berlin.
The center's executive director, Rabbi Andreas Nachama, said he hoped visitors to the new center at "what was once the artery of the Third Reich" would "walk away with a feel for the dimension of what happened," according to a report by the Deutsche Welle.

The journalist who interviewed a neo-Nazi for Germany's Vanity Fair filed charges against him.

Michel Friedman -- a journalist, attorney and former leader in the German Jewish community -- wanted to interview far-rightist Horst Mahler about his roots as a founding member of the left-extremist Red Army Faction for the trendy magazine.
Mahler, 71, who famously underwent a transformation to the extreme right, reportedly greeted Friedman with "Heil Hitler" and, during the course of the two-hour interview, denied the Holocaust occured and called Hitler the savior of "not only the German people." The interview, in German, is currently online and in the printed version of Germany's Vanity Fair.
After the interview, Friedman filed suit as a private individual against Mahler because of his "incendiary" remarks. Friedman commented that the danger of Nazism "is not only a reality of the past but also of the present."
It is illegal in Germany to glorify Hitler, deny the Holocaust and to repeat National Socialist propaganda, including emblems and greetings.
German Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Ulf Poschardt said the magazine wanted to confront Germans with the reality of an ideology that too many of them secretly approve, according to recent opinion polls.
"Michel Friedman's courageous interview gives an important insight into the deep chasms that this society must confront," Poschardt said. In his editorial he acknowledges that Mahler says things "that are banned in Germany."
Mahler was released from jail in August after serving nine months for incitement to hate. He is facing charges for having raised his arm in the banned Hitler salute and uttering the Hitler greeting when he was led to his jail cell last year. The prosecution is pushing for another nine months behind bars.
Mahler and his lawyer, Sylvia Stolz, called the judge in the case a "slave to the state."

The Anti-Defamation League on Thursday released recent survey results which it says show 15 percent of American adults hold "unquestionably anti-Semitic" views.
The figures represent an increase of one percent since last time the survey was conducted in 2005, and contradicted a decade-long trend of reduced anti-Semitism.
The ADL, which is an international organization aiming to reduce anti-Semitism through programs and services, conducted the telephone survey of 2,000 Americans registered as voters in October. Presenting the results of the survey at the ADL National Commission's annual meeting, National Director Abraham Foxman expressed his concern at the apparent reversal of previous trends away from anti-Semitism.

for the third year on National Unity Day, a holiday the Kremlin

Italy yesterday brought in a law making it easier to expel 'undesirables' from other EU countries.
The move came amid outrage over the sex attack murder of an admiral's wife by a Romanian migrant.
Previously, EU citizens could only be sent home if they could be shown to pose a threat to the state, usually interpreted as a terrorist.

Now they can be kicked out if they are 'a threat to society', which allows more scope.

The ruling was rushed through after RE teacher Giovanna Reggiani, 47, was beaten with a rock in a sex attack by a Romanian migrant and her body dumped in a ditch. She died two days after the attack in a suburb of northern Rome.
Nicolae Mailat, 24, from Transylvania, was arrested in his ramshackle hovel at a nearby gipsy camp a short while later.
He had two previous convictions for theft in his home country.

Within five years, solar power will be cheap enough to compete with carbon-generated electricity, even in Britain, Scandinavia or upper Siberia. In a decade, the cost may have fallen so dramatically that solar cells could undercut oil, gas, coal and nuclear power by up to half. Technology is leaping ahead of a stale political debate about fossil fuels.

Anil Sethi, the chief executive of the Swiss start-up company Flisom http://www.flisom.ch , says he looks forward to the day - not so far off - when entire cities in America and Europe generate their heating, lighting and air-conditioning needs from solar films on buildings with enough left over to feed a surplus back into the grid.

The secret? Mr Sethi lovingly cradles a piece of dark polymer foil, as thin a sheet of paper. It is 200 times lighter than the normal glass-based solar materials, which require expensive substrates and roof support. Indeed, it is so light it can be stuck to the sides of buildings.

Rather than being manufactured laboriously piece by piece, it can be mass-produced in cheap rolls like packaging - in any colour.

The "tipping point" will arrive when the capital cost of solar power falls below $1 (51p) per watt, roughly the cost of carbon power. We are not there yet. The best options today vary from $3 to $4 per watt - down from $100 in the late 1970s.

Mr Sethi believes his product will cut the cost to 80 cents per watt within five years, and 50 cents in a decade.

It is based on a CIGS (CuInGaSe2) semiconductor com pound that absorbs light by freeing electrons. This is then embedded on the polymer base. It will be ready commercially in late 2009.

"It'll even work on a cold, grey, cloudy day in England, which still produces 25pc to 30pc of the optimal light level. That is enough, if you cover half the roof," he said.

"We don't need subsidies, we just need governments to get out of the way and do no harm. They've spent $170bn subsidizing nuclear power over the last thirty years," he said.

His ultra-light technology, based on a copper indium compound, can power mobile phones and laptop computers with a sliver of foil.

"You won't have to get down on your knees ever again to hunt for plug socket," he said

Michael Rogol, a solar expert at Credit Lyonnais http://tinyurl.com/32ysv8 , expects the solar industry to grow from $7bn in 2004 to nearer $40bn by 2010, with operating earning s of $3bn.

The sector is poised to outstrip wind power. It is a remarkable boom for a technology long dismissed by experts as hopelessly unviable.

Mr Rogol said he was struck by the way solar use had increased dramatically in Japan and above all Germany, where Berlin's green energy law passed in 2004 forces the grid to buy surplus electricity from households at a fat premium. (In Britain, utilities may refuse to buy the surplus. They typically pay half the customer price of electricity.)

The change in Germany's law catapulted the share price of the German flagship company SolarWorld www.solarworld-usa.com/ from ?1.38 (67p) in February 2004 to over ?60 by early 2006.

The tipping point in Germany and Japan came once households twigged that they could undercut their unloved utilities. Credit Lyonnais believes the rest of the world will soon join the stampede.

Mike Splinter, c hief executive of the US semiconductor group , told me his company is two years away from a solar product that reaches the magic level of $1 a watt.

Cell conversion efficiency and economies of scale are galloping ahead so fast that the cost will be down to 70 US cents by 2010, with a target of 30 or 40 cents in a decade.

"We think solar power can provide 20pc of all the incremental energy needed worldwide by 2040," he said.

"This is a very powerful technology and we're seeing dramatic improvements all the time. It can be used across the entire range from small houses to big buildings and power plants," he said.

"The beauty of this is that you can use it in rural areas of India without having to lay down power lines or truck in fuel."

Villages across Asia and Africa that have never seen electricity may soon leapfrog directly into the solar age, replicating the jump to mobile phones seen in countries that never had a network of fixed lines. As a by -p roduct, India's rural poor will stop blanketing the subcontinent with soot from tens of millions of open stoves.

Needless to say, electricity utilities are watching the solar revolution with horror. Companies in Japan and Germany have already seen an erosion of profits because of an effect known "peak shaving". In essence, the peak wattage of solar cells overlaps with hours of peak demand and peak prices for electricity in the middle of the day, crunching margins.

As for the oil companies, they are still treating solar power as a fringe curiosity. "There is no silver bullet," said Jeroen V an der Veer, Shell's chief executive.

"We have invested a bit in all forms of renewable energy ourselves and maybe we'll find a winner one day. But the reality is that in twenty years time we'll still be using more oil than now," he said.

Duane is quite comfortable with the word, in a Barker lounger/afternoon nap-in-a-hammock sort of way. Unless your name is Tom Metzger or David Duke, you can’t get much more comfortable with the word Nigger than Duane is. Conversely, Nas is also just as comfortable…and America is not a better place on either account. This is an all-inclusive complaint.
