Since the cost of prescription drugs is so outrageous, I thought everyone should know about this. Please read the following and pass it on.

It pays to shop around. This helps to solve the mystery as to why they can afford to put a Walgreen's on every corner On Monday night,

Steve Wilson, an investigative reporter for Channel 7 News in Detroit, did a story on generic drug price gouging by pharmacies. He found

in his investigation, that some of these generic drugs were marked up as much as 3,000% or more. Yes, that's not a typo.....three

thousand percent! So often, we blame the drug companies for the high cost of drugs, and usually rightfully so. But in this case, the fault

clearly lies with the pharmacies themselves. For example, if you had to buy a prescription drug, and bought the name brand, you might

pay $100 for 100 pills. The pharmacist might tell you that if you get the generic equivalent, they would only cost $80, making you think

you are "saving" $20. What the pharmacist is not telling you is that those 100 generic pills may have only cost him $10!

At the end of the report, one of the anchors asked Mr. Wilson whether or not there were any pharmacies that did not adhere to this

practice, and he said that Costco consistently charged little over their cost for the generic drugs.

I went to the Costco site, where you can look up any drug, and get its online price. It says that the in-store prices are consistent with

the online prices. I was appalled. Just to give you one example from my own experience, I had to use the drug, Compazine, which

helps prevent nausea in chemo patients.

I used the generic equivalent, which cost $54.99 for 60 pills at CVS. I checked the price at Costco, and I could have bought 100 pills

for $19.89. For 145 of m y pain pills, I paid $72.57. I could have got 150 at Costco for $28.08.

I would like to mention, that although Costco is a "membership" type store, you do NOT have to be a member to buy prescriptions there,

as it is a federally regulated substance. You just tell them at the door that you wish to use the pharmacy, and they will let you in. (this is true)

I went there this past Thursday and asked them. I am asking each of you to please help me by copying this letter, and passing it into

SOMETIMES THE LEFT GETS IT RIGHT
Last week Portland, Oregon became the first governmental body in the US to not only acknowledge that imminent peak oil is

a reality, but also to publish a plan as to what the city should be doing to cope. Breaking new ground has both its perils and

its rewards. The peril is that you have no guidelines to the road ahead. The advantage is that there is no standard of comparison

so your efforts instantly become the textbook to mitigating the effects of peak oil at the local level.

As someone who is familiar with the literature and follows the peak oil story on a daily basis, I can report that the folks on the

Portland Peak Oil Task Force have produced a succinct, outstanding report that should be read by every local official everywhere.

While there will naturally be many local variations, Portland’s approach to the problem contains much that seems universally

applicable.

The tone of the Portland report is one of moderation. Although it deals with the most serious issue the world has had to face

since the world wars and threats of nuclear holocaust a generation or two ago, the report’s 85 pages methodically makes the

way through the peak oil story and what needs to be done. In a matter-of-fact way, the report deals with numerous issues

likely to ensue from peak oil and offers many new insights as to what is likely to happen and what we as a civilization should

be doing to transition away from fossil fuels and feedstocks.

Portland clearly benefited from the expertise of the many people who served on the task force and its four expanded subcommittees.

This process allowed the task force to break down a large and unwieldy problem into more manageable topics (land use and

transportation, food and agriculture, public and social services, and economic change) to come up with some new insights

and good recommendations for each.

The report’s authors grasp the point that whether oil depletion impacts our civilization this year, in three years, ten years or 20

years makes little difference as the changes required will be so massive that we need to start working on the problem immediately

. The authors give short shrift to those who claim we will be saved by alternatives and new technologies by making the point that

there is nothing on the horizon that can cheaply, quickly and efficiently replace oil and natural gas. They warn against rapid drops

in oil prices as we saw last year as nothing more than the volatility we can expect as we approach peak oil.

In assessing the impact of peak oil, the report starts with the most fundamental of issues: the human carrying capacity of the

planet which has been dramatically increased in the last 100 years by the widespread use of fossil fuels.

Drawing on the historical experiences of the 1973 Arab oil embargo which cut world oil production by six or seven percent, the

report notes the harm done to US economic growth, productivity and rate of inflation. This discussion leads into three possible

scenarios for peak oil’s impact on the world.

In the best scenario, oil availability drains away slowly so that 20 years from the beginning of oil depletion, 50 percent of current

consumption is still available. Under such a scenario prices would be volatile with demand dropping in response to spikes and

increasing as prices recede.

A second scenario would be sudden disruptions in supplies which could last for months or years leaving the advanced economies

in a state of emergency for long periods. Society could cope but with much more disruption.

The final scenario is social disintegration. The economic impact of peak oil simply becomes so great that multiple global systems,

financial, currency or trade fail. Governments are forced to concentrate on basic human needs and are overwhelmed. The Portland

study concentrates on the long-term transition scenario as a situation that if properly handled has the potential to deal with shocks

and prevent social deterioration.

The specific impacts on various aspects of Portland’s economy and social fabric are too numerous to list much less discuss. The

basic recommendation is nothing earthshaking— cut absolute use of oil and natural gas in half over the next 25 years. The faster this

happens, the smaller Portland’s or anybody else’s vulnerability to shrinking supplies of oil and natural gas will be.

Fifty percent is a challenging number for population growth and is likely to continue, and some services – police, medical, fire, garbage,

sewage, clean water – are so vital to modern civilization that more modest reductions in their energy consumption are likely to be feasible.

Thus the impact of an absolute 50 percent reduction in oil and natural gas consumption is likely to be closer to two-thirds or more for the

average citizen.

The recommendations as to how to achieve such a reduction, even over two decades, are pretty straight forward: mass transit, better

land use, walkable communities, far more efficient vehicles, freight moving from planes and trucks to rail and water, building standards

improve, and above all, education.

I read an article in my local newspaper about a severe shortage of nurse
anesthetists (not sure if I spelled that right). The article went on to say
that the average national salary for this field is $145,000!!!!!!!!

All one needs is a bachelors degree in nursing and most large hospitals pay
for the Anesthesia training.

This would be a great field for lone wolf types. You can make enough money
to support a family, live very comfortably, and support above ground
activists. Plus you would have a flexible schedule.

Also, with a little more schooling, you could become a nurse practitioner 

and start your own clinic.

March 16, 2007 | WASHINGTON -- At the annual policy conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee this week in

Washington, a conservative Christian couple from eastern Tennessee told me that their son had decided to join the Israeli army.

It was one of many surreal moments during the three-day gathering hosted by AIPAC, the lobbying group devoted to ensuring close

U.S.-Israel ties that remains extraordinarily influential in Washington. "We just love God, and we just love Israel," the couple beamed,

when I asked why they had come to the conference.

Amid an energized and at times almost circuslike atmosphere, just about everyone in attendance shared two main preoccupations:

the _2008 U.S. presidential election_ (http://dir.salon.com/topics/2008_election/) and confronting Iran. And this year's conference saw

record attendance: more than 6,000 people, coming from every state in the country and exceeding last year's crowd of around 5,000.

Many of them were American Jews, of course, but the evangelical Christian community also made a strong showing. For those feeling

apocalyptic about the turmoil in the Middle East, pastor John Hagee was there to greet them. Of the many prominent speakers at the

conference, Hagee got one of the most enthusiastic receptions.

"The sleeping giant of Christian Zionism has awoken!" Hagee proclaimed, taking the microphone at the opening dinner reception on

Sunday. The electrified crowd -- most of it Jewish -- roared in support, pounding on the tables. Hagee went on to declare the United

Nations a "political brothel" and asserted that _Israel_ (http://dir.salon.com/topics/israel/) must never give up land. He agreed with

Israeli writer Dore Gold that granting part of Jerusalem to the Palestinians would be "tantamount to turning it over to the Taliban."

And, after rebuking Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he led the crowd in a chant of "Israel lives!" urging them to "shout it

from the mountaintops!"

A battle has been waging during the opening months of the 110th Congress over proposed Hate Crime legislation. The main bill

currently before the House is H.R. 254, titled, "The David Ray Hate Crimes Prevention Act," introduced by Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX).

Opposition is growing to the legislation because hate crime laws would make certain types of speech a federal offense, allowing

federal "thought police" to interfere in the law enforcement authority of states and local government. Such interference is blatantly

unconstitutional.

HR. 254 would require every state to pass and enforce "anti-hate" laws, making it a federal crime to express bias against specifically

federally protected groups. Some hate laws have been interpreted to mean documents like the Bible are hate literature and preaching

from it is hate speech. Nowhere was this more clearly shown than in England under a similar law, where two men who called Islam

"wicked" were indicted, and now face seven years in prison. The British law blatantly says "truth" cannot be used as a defense.

The main force supporting the bill is the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). This group was behind passage of the British law. The

ADL is a radical organization, which routinely charges organizations more to its right, of hate speech. It appears that nearly any

organization that does not accept the ADL’s worldview is marked for advocating hate.

Freedoms of speech and hate crime legislation are not compatible. Many organizations who advocate hate crime legislation,

such as the ADL, are pushing for control of the Internet to stop "hate speech." While most people would interpret hate speech

as being on the lines of neo-Nazi white supremacy, in reality the ADL really means groups which advocate issues like free

enterprise, property rights, gun rights, etc.

In 2005, the ADL targeted the Freedom 21 Conference as an advocate of hate speech. Prior to the conference in Reno, Nevada,

the ADL sent out alerts about the gathering. Their premise that Freedom 21 was advocating hate was the group’s advocacy of

private property rights. The ADL believes ownership of private property is a social injustice that oppresses the poor.

Others are now advocating that skeptics of global warming theories be denied the right to speak out. Still others advocate making

it a crime to use the term "illegal aliens." Reason and rationality are thrown out the window for political correctness under so-called

hate speech.

To preserve freedom of speech in America H.R. 254 must be stopped. In fact, now that many are protesting the bill, supporters on

Congress are trying a new tactic. While using H.R. 254 as a shield, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers is quietly

gathering support for yet another hate crimes bill entitled, "The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007. This

bill is actually worse than HR. 254. Both must be stopped. Call your congressman and demand he/she stand for free speech and

against any hate crime legislation.

around. Also, I am not so sure about your archive shows. I get so excited when
u post new shows on W.A.R. however when i hear that you are going back in
time to the archive in the bunker my chest sinks and i fast forward. Although
u have been right on a great many things back in 1994 about Korean and etc.
So, keep up the good work. You bring an uplifting message to my Nigger
