The troops will protect the nearly 19,000 French nationals living in the Ivory Coast, according to Janine DiGiovanni, a reporter for The Times of London in Abidjan. They are not scheduled to intervene in the civil conflict. It is a bit late but probably worth mentioning… Some 20 Gypsy houses were burned to the ground on Tuesday, September 10, by the citizens of the village of Petrovka, Odessa Region, in Ukraine. The torchings took place after a fight between Gypsies and locals, as a result of which one white kid was killed and three hospitalized, reported local news sources. A representative of the local department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Odessa Region said 17-year old Konstantin Milentev was killed in a fight with Gypsies. Immediately after the torchings, the village of Petrovka was flooded with police units, including Berkut Riot Control Squadrons and Internal Ministry Troops, "to keep things from getting worse." The most recent prior major inter-ethnic conflict in the area between Gypsies and other nationalities took place in the early 1990s in the Tatarbunary District nearby. At that time a fight broke out and lead to a pogrom against Gypsy homes. In July 2002 the European Commission Against Racism and Racial Intolerance, part of the Council of Europe, declared that Gypsy rights were not being respected in Ukraine. The Commission underscored the need to create a harmonious environment for inter-ethnic cooperation. Beaty, a professor of English at Texas' Southern Methodist University and an "intellectual" peddler of anti-Jewish bigotry. By 1951 Beaty spread the Khazar canard far and wide with the publication of an anti-Semitic book titled "The Iron Curtain Over America." Beaty described the book as "the first comprehensive, documented account of the origin, the scope and the intentions of the 'insidious forces working from within' which are seeking to destroy America and Western Christian civilization." In it he devoted an entire chapter to "Russia and the Khazar" and to what he described as "the above-board infiltration of Judaized Khazars, and other persons of the same ideology, into the United States Democratic Party." The Khazar theory of Beaty's, and others, has been seen as the myth it is. For example, in December 1952, the conservative monthly "Faith and Freedom" published an analysis by Dr. V. Orval Watts, which pointed up the fallacies in Beaty's that Communism was created by "Judaized Khazars of Russia." Watts concluded his article by stating that "anyone who troubles to check his references will find that Beaty's whole Khazar story has little more historical foundation than the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table." Another article on the subject, which you may want to check out in a library, is "The Khazars: Edomites, Israelites, and Khazars" by Leonard B. Glick, who was taught cultural anthropology and European Jewish history at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, which was published in the February 1983 issue of "Midstream" magazine.
