The State Department of Corrections suspended formal satanic services by inmates at one Kentucky prison yesterday until officials can research and develop a statewide policy. Inmates at Green River Correctional Complex, a medium-security prison in Central City, have been allowed since earlier this summer to hold weekly satanic services as part of the official religious services calendar, said Lisa Carnahan, a spokes-woman for the state Department of Corrections. And in Michigan, it ain't good. First off, it was in Michigan I learned that you can't force a cop to make a criminal case, no matter how much evidence you hit him over the head with. If you offend him, he may retaliate by simply refusing to help you. I have seen nothing in the code books that says ugly and rude people are excluded from the protection of the law. But how would you like to get assaulted and then when the officer gets there you have to endure humiliation from him TOO? Personally, I would rather carry a gun and look out for my own ass than to have to call in yet another person who's going to treat me badly. Now before the cop even got there and the whole time I was talking to him, my mind was already running over a list of options for actions I could take when he blew off the call. Some of us "public" seem to look at the whole situation differently. The police seem to view their "authority" as meaning they have some final say-so over how the thing is going to be settled or disposed of or investigated or not. To me, I am responsible for solving my own problems. Police have certain things they can and can't or will and won't do. But their decision is not final. If they refuse to initiate an investigation or to arrest somebody or lend some assistance, then that just kicks the ball back to me. So before I even call, I already know what other options I have, because I ain't expecting a whole lot. I tend to believe that translates into a general rule: when people have no confidence that their police and public officials will do their jobs and handle critical situations competently, they will take care of it themselves out in the street. --------------------------- Tommy says: True ************************************************************ Dear Terrible Tommy, A lot of the militias out there are either phony as hell or badly led. They're always harping about protecting the Constitution. Get real. The Constitution went out of style with nickel cokes. It was refreshing to see a sporting event where you saw white guys playing against each other instead of a bunch of monkeys swinging from rim to rim. What is even more surprising is that these so called foreign teams beat NBA players. I will be the first to say that I never expected to see NBA players lose to foreign teams because let's face it, how do you beat animals. However, if you have noticed the tide has turned in the game of basketball. In this year's NBA draft, I believe at least 10-15 players drafted in the first round came from foreign teams i.e Yugoslavia, Croatia, Spain, Italy and it's only going to increase every year. So maybe in the near future, the racial tide will change in the NBA where you see more white players. They own the team! *********************************************************** Terrorism Task Force Makes Arrest in Oregon Sunday, September 08, 2002 PORTLAND, Ore. — The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested a man at the Portland airport on Sunday for unlawful use of a Social Security number and unlawful possession of a U.S. government document, according to an FBI statement. Sheik Mohammed Abdirahman Kariye, 40, was booked at the Multnomah County Jail and was to appear in court Monday. Police referred all questions to the FBI's Portland office, where an answering machine played a recording of FBI spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele reading the statement, which did not provide further details. Steele did not immediately return phone calls Sunday. Phone listings show a Mohammed Kariye living in southwest Portland, but no one answered calls at that number Sunday. The FBI statement identified Kariye as a Sheik. The title is often used by Islamic clergymen, but it could not be confirmed if Kariye is a religious leader. Sheik can also be a secular title of respect. Calls to four Portland-area mosques asking if anyone knew Kariye were not returned Sunday. Cook County Judge Lon William Shultz spared Johnson the death penalty despite the gruesome way Johnson and the girl's mother, Joan Tribblet, disposed of the frail, 18-pound body of Oncwanique Tribblet on Dec. 19, 1997.Shultz said the actions of both parents showed "combined malignancies of their hearts. ''"Mr. Johnson and Ms. Tribblet opened a window for everyone to see into the deepest and darkest depravity of their flawed human souls,'' Shultz said. The judge admitted the way the toddler's murder was hidden from police and even family for more than six months was heinous. But he said the way the girl was killed--choked and beaten with a ruler by both parents--was not extreme enough to warrant the death penalty. Prosecutors Frank Marek and Veryl Gambino said Johnson could receive up to 100 years in prison for the killing and five years in prison for concealing the murder. They called the way the toddler's body was disposed of the worst case of concealment they had seen. Johnson's lawyers blamed the killing on the mother. Tribblet was sentenced to 60 years in prison Aug. 30 after testifying against Johnson and pinning the girl's death on him. She claimed the death was accidental and said the couple had been sleeping when Oncwanique woke up at 4 a.m. and roused her and later Johnson. While she admits grabbing the girl in a stranglehold by the neck, she said Johnson hit the girl with a ruler several times while holding her face down on the bed. The girl finally went limp, she said. Johnson cut up the girl's body and told Tribblet to cook it. But they stopped because there was so much smoke that a neighbor summoned a Chicago Fire Department truck. Some of the remains were then fed to dogs, and the rest were dumped into a pot of acid. ----------------- Tommy says: Primates will be primates.
